Who am I then? My name is Pete Newman and I was born in 1984 in Ystrad Mynach. I started taking photographs when I went to Art college with no real idea of what I was doing and quickly realising that I wasn't much cop at drawing. After a couple of days in a darkroom making dark and moody prints, I was hooked.

In order that I might make some sense of photography and in a vain hope of me relenting my dark, moody prints, I was sent to the library with the instruction that I should look at the pictures and not read the books. It didn't work. I discovered a book on Russian photographers of the 1980's, my photos got darker and moodier but now had some rationale behind it.

I then enroled on a HND course in Photography, grew my hair even longer and aqquired a Pentax Spotmatic. Thus eqquiped, I turned my camera on the streets of Pontypridd and Cardiff. Rockers, Hippies and apparantly normal people came under my gaze.

It was at this time that I redicoverd computers. These were not the clunky grey boxes under the heel of Bill Gates' horrendous jackboot they had in school, but were sleek and white with an appealing piece of fruit on them. Better still, they had scanners that took film. It was the start of my oddesey into the world of digital media that has continued unabated ever since.

I do other stuff as well. I'm a trombonist, guitarist and bass player in a couple of bands including Wonderbrass and Tatt Syrup. We can be heard in the pubs and clubs of Cardiff, oftern from a great distance, and we go to festivals and things like that as well.

I like warm beer, hot curry and tea. I don't like milky coffee with unpronouncable names, fizzy larger and fish. If we were meant to eat them we'd look like dolphins.
